A day in the life of…..

One of my Internet friends sent the photo above.  I can’t remember who, but perhaps it’s better if they remain anonymous.

Tuesday, I almost felt worse than I felt right after I had hip surgery.  I over did the pool action on Monday, walking 16 laps = 1 mile then I participated in the Aqua Fitness Class.  I only did the 16 laps today and left the class when Karen started the heavy leg action.  I wanted to stay longer, but the wise parent voice in my head said, “it’s okay to leave now.”

Do you ever overdo it?

A while ago I was a “Shop til you drop” “When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping,” or “Born to shop” kind of gal, walking many miles in the mall and trying on clothes until David’s patience expired and he collapsed somewhere.  Times change, however, and I do most of my shopping on the Internet these days.

My old company used to say, let your fingers do the walking…..

My job these days is to make sure I eat right, get enough exercise, keep my mind active with various challenges, and socialize occasionally. Oh yes, don’t forget to feed the parrots and walk the dogs. And the gazillion doctor’s appointments for me and David. Mercifully, I have no more scheduled for 2014.

David and I have no big Christmas plans. We have gone to Chinese restaurants for dinner in the past or hung out with a gang of friends, most them dead or moved away.

I tentatively think we will drive down to my daughter’s farm over the holidays if David can help with the driving.

Meanwhile life continues at an even pace, and I am happier now than ever.  Goodness, it only took 70+ years to learn being is better than doing.

  1. I’m so glad you’ve found peace and happiness, Dianne. It must help you cope with the pain you’re unfortunately having to endure.

Almost done with holiday shopping. Just the neighbors left and our son who can’t seem to decide what to put on his wish list.

  2. Yup, I over did after the gall bladder came out and now have wicked adhesion’s. I overdid after this surgery my first day in the pool. Nope, you don’t have to do a mile. Try half an hour walking and half an hour aerobics light. Add 15 minutes in the hot tub doing stretches. I really feel great.

  3. In the vein of trying to be healthier I tried to start a 3-day cleanse yesterday and ended up sick. Like violently ill. Maybe Shakeology is for the young and not for the 50+ crowd. :/ Glad you are doing better. We have done the Chinese Christmas before and it’s not so bad! If you travel, be safe. 🙂

  4. Yeah, it’s taken me a long time to learn that just because a certain amount of something is good for you, that doesn’t mean that more of it is better for you. It’s certainly true for exercise, as my aching knee is telling right now after too much jumping around the gym yesterday … do enuf., but don’t overdo it!
